Miss Thousand Island Pageant will be held on Saturday, August 9 at 7 p.m. at the Clayton Opera House in Clayton, NY         

Miss New York 2008, Leigh-Taylor Smith, Miss Brooklyn

Leigh-Taylor Smith, Miss Brooklyn, is a 22 year old graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre and currently works as Assistant Designer at the interior design firm Scott Sanders LLC.  Leigh-Taylor's platform is 'Volunteering Changes Lives' and she plans to pursue a Master's Degree in Interior Design.  The new Miss New York received a $6,500 scholarship award to the college of her choice, as well as a $250 Preliminary Swimsuit Award and a $250 Preliminary Evening Gown Award.  She will be representing the Empire State in the 2009 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada in January.

Alyse Zwick, Miss Long Island, is a 22 year old Junior at the City University of New York School of Professional Studies pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Culture who currently works as a professional model, actress and licensed real estate salesperson with Vipler Realty.  Her platform is 'Honoring our War Heroes: Keeping Their History Alive For Our Youth'.  Alyse received a $3,000 scholarship to the college of her choice.

Theresa Tokarowski, Miss Jubilee, is a 24 year old Graduate of the Manhattan School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Classical Vocal Performance who currently works as a Theatre Director and Assistant to a luxury handbag and jewelry designer.  Her platform is 'Girls on the Run'.  Theresa plans to pursue a Master's/Doctoral Degree in Vocal Performance and Music Business.  She received a $2,000 scholarship to the college of her choice, as well as a $500 Miss New York Community Service Award and a $250 Preliminary Talent Award.  In addition, Theresa was honored by the Miss America Organization who presented her with the 'Miss Miracle Maker' Award for raising $1,188 for the Children's Miracle Network.

Miss Southern New York

LaMonica Falkquay, Miss Southern New York, is a 24 year old Graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts, Advertising and Spanish who currently works as an Assistant Account Executive in Advertising.  Her platform is 'Empowering Youth with a Vision'.  LaMonica plans to pursue a Master's of Business Administration.  She received a $1,500 scholarship to the college of her choice.

Fourth Runner-Up, Kathleen Martin, Miss Greater Rochester, is a 21 year old Senior pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts as a musical theatre major at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. She currently works as a NYU Wagner Research Center for Leadership in Action administrative assistant. Her platform is 'Inspiring Youth Minds Through the Performing Arts'. Kathleen received a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice as well as a $250 Preliminary Talent Award.



Alexandra Mazzucchelli of Staten Island
Crowned Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen 2008

Miss Outstanding TeenAlexandra Mazzucchelli, 16, of Great Kills, Staten Island was crowned Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen 2008 at the conclusion of the state pageant held in Utica, New York on June 1.  Miss Mazzucchelli wowed the judges with her classical vocal rendition of “Tonight” from the musical ‘West Side Story.’  Alexandra will represent the Empire State in the national Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Competition in Orlando, Florida August 12-16 where she will compete for a $30,000 college scholarship and other awards!  Congratulations to Alexandra, the new Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen!
