Eight Young Ladies Begin the Road to Miss America!
Brooklyn, NY - February 1, 2008 The Miss Brooklyn Scholarship Program, preliminary to Miss New York and Miss America Scholarship Programs, officials announced today that tickets to the highly anticipated event are on sale now to the general public. Advanced purchase tickets are available for $25 by visiting www.BrooklynQueens.org. The event will be held at the 300-seat Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts, Long Island University Brooklyn Campus located at Flatbush and Dekalb in downtown Brooklyn. Tickets will also be available at the door for $30.00.
Last week, Elisabeth Baldanza, Miss New York 2007, and 51 other young ladies competed for the Miss America title in Las Vegas. After tallying the final numbers, more than 19.2 million people watched TLC's telecast of the 2008 Miss America LIVE pageant over three airings, the original live airing and two repeat airings. Nineteen-year-old Miss Michigan, Kirsten Haglund, won the crown.
Eight young women from New York City will compete in Interview, Talent, Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit, Evening Wear, Onstage Q&A, and Top 5 Final Ballot. During the competition, each contestant will also discuss her chosen platform, a social or community issue of concern to herself and society at large.
The winner of the Miss Brooklyn Competition will be awarded $1,000 in scholarship funds for college or graduate school education among many other awards. Four Teen contestants will also compete for the title of Miss Brooklyn’s Outstanding Teen 2008 and a $500 cash scholarship.
The Miss America Organization is one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.
